Last week on Thursday I went to Canterbury’s Swimming with Tayla, Elsie, Ryby, Miriam, Josh, Jack, Hunter. The swimming was at Selwyn Aquatic Centre. There was lots of schools there, we were in the North zone with St Joseph’s and some more schools. The year 7 & 8 went in the morning and year 5 & 6 went in the afternoon. In year 5 we had Eliot and none in year 6. My swimming heat was breaststroke my time was 52.5 seconds. I was feeling quite nervous before my race but once I did my race all my nerves were gone.

This week we made a Advent calendar we had the option to do it digitally or on paper. Advent is a time in Liturgical year that is the 24 days before Christmas. I learn’t that on the wreath there is 1 pink and 3 purple candles. Our calendar has 1 act of kindness each day that we have to complete.

Over the last 2 weeks we have been learning about Mary and saints.

We had to make a fact file on Mary first we added her Name, birth date, place of birth, family members and feast day.

I learnt that Mary’s full name is Maryam.

One thing I found interesting was the rosary are a way to meditate on the life’s of Jesus and Mary.

This week for Reading we have been looking at the Ancient Olympics. One thing I learnt about the Ancient Olympics was that they did not wear clothes when they participated.

Last week on Tuesday a group went to Sumner beach. Me and my friends were one of them and it was really cold.

We went to Sumner beach to look at the sand dunes and why we need them. I learnt that we need the sand dunes because lots of animals live in the dunes. These are some of the animals that live in the dunes, sand crabs, lizards, spiders and beetles. You should not stand on the sand dunes because it is animals home and they will feel sad and how would you feel if someone stepped on your home.

When you go to the beach do you see wood planks on the sand dunes? If you do you need to walk on them it is so you do not step on the sand dunes.

In 2018 there was people who wanted to see the sunrise and they wrote to the Christchurch City Council and said they had to get rid of the sand dunes. The Christchurch City Council got back to them and they did a test and got rid of the sand dunes next to there house. One night they were watching the news and their roof fell on them ,then they realized what the sand dunes were for. The next day the people went  City Council told them to put the dunes back then they lived a happy life.
